My oldest girl went to circus camp this summer, and what struck me about SANCA (the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts) was the instructors' tight-knit community. They speak a specific language, celebrate one anothers' successes, encourage one another to persevere, and are passionate about their work. Even as relative outsiders, we felt like we were part of something bigger. My girl was learning, and everyone was enthusiastic about her accomplishments.
I don't want to run away to the circus, but I do want that kind of community. I want to feel like I'm part of something bigger, and that we're all in this together. I just need to figure out how to get there. . .

I blog rarely, because I'm busy writing books. When I do blog, I focus on writing, friendship, family, and books. Because my family's best nicknames are private, I use their birth years for shorthand:
